Postbaccalaureate Education Support Fund - Awardees

Solving for Science and National PROPEL would like to congratulate the following awardees of the Postbaccalaureate Education Support Fund:

  • PROPEL NW – University of Washington/Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center
    • Funds will be used for recruitment and Matchmaking Event support, PROPEL NW website development, a welcome luncheon, local symposium, monthly events co-hosted with Fred Hutch, and scholar travel funds to support conference attendance.  The above efforts will be expanded by matching funds from the University of Washington’s Institute for Translational Immunology and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
  • ICARE – University of Iowa
    • Funds will be used to partner with a CIMER-trained facilitator, Darren Hoffmann, PhD, an Associate Professor on the UI campus, to facilitate a one-day equivalent faculty workshop and several shorter programs for near-peer mentors.  Matching funds from the University of Iowa’s Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center will be used to identify and train faculty from this initial cohort in CIMER facilitator training.
  • Badger-PREP – University of Wisconsin, Madison
    • Funds will be used to pivot the PREP program to a PROPEL model including efforts to redesign curriculum, expand scholar recruitment, and launch a Matchmaking Event.  Funds will to support the administrator in these efforts.  Matching funds are expected from several sources including the Department of Neuroscience, Cancer Center, Morgridge Institute, Schools of Veterinary Medicine and Medicine and Public Health, the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and the Graduate School.
  • OHSU PREP – Oregon Health and Science University
    • Funds will be used to produce scholar external science communication workshop, registration at scientific conferences, doctoral career-awareness programming and industry site visits. Funds will also be used community building activities, interprogrammatically and with campus organizations. Additional funds will be used for mentor training guest speakers. The OHSU Office of Research and Innovation have agreed to expand salary support to program staff to continue this program.
  • Postbac Program - University of Louisville
    • Funds will be used for a molecular biology workshop, books for skill building and effective learning strategy courses, conference attendance, welcome events and community building, local symposium, graduate student mentors, and website development.  Incentive to support faculty by financing a portion of the salary is supported by the chairs of the 5 basic science departments at University of Louisville. The Dean of the School of Medicine and the Cancer Center at University of Louisville will match the PROPEL funds to provide more professional development support.
